Our Product

shingled roofing
We proudly use Certain Teed 25XTTM and 50 year LandmarkTM designer shingles.  This is the product of our choice because it is a superior product as well as a fibreglass shingle, as opposed to an organic shingle.

Organic shingles tend to contract and swell as they absorb moisture, reducing their ability to cover and protect the roof (10-15% absorption of organic vs. up to 1% in fibreglass).  Organic shingles do not, therefore, hold up as well as fibreglass shingles.

All shingles have an upper granule layer (the colour that is observed) and 2 asphalt layers surrounding the organic or fibreglass mat.

We offer a variety of colours and once you have firmed up your plans with us, we will drop off swatches of shingles with the exact colours that you may choose from.

Ice & water is a membrane, an additional layer between the plywood (or board) and shingle, that binds to its substrate, completely sealing off all gaps and spaces.  Water that travels up the shingle during melting periods, as a result, does not come into contact with the underlying wood.

The full coverage ice & water is an upgrade and is not included in the price unless it is requested by the homeowner. However, valleys will always be covered with ice & water at no additional charge. We no longer offer metal valleys unless a special request is made. We noticed a few problems with the open metal valleys over the years. For one, metal valleys are quite malleable and will bend to create small pinholes that invite water in. Imagine how many times it has been transported to finally arrive at your house.  From the manufacturer to the supplier and carried up a ladder to the top of your roof.  If you look at the picture of metal valley on the left, you'll notice that the shingles are cut. Now picture only 8" of metal extending outward from the centre of the valley.  When snow and ice melts in this region, it can travel some distance under the shingle. There may not be a long enough stretch of metal underneath to protect from leakage. Our solution to this problem is the Ice & Water Closed Valley.  There is 3' of impermeable ice & water shield centered over the valley underneath the shingles plus the shingles of one of the roof decks covers 12" under the cut shingles of the adjacent roof deck (see the photo below).

As a less expensive alternative, full coverage of asphalt felt can be applied. The difference between this option and the full coverage ice & water is that the felt does not adhere to the roof deck.

If neither of these is an option that meets your budget, we remove ice & snow in the winter time when ice damming occurs for an additional fee.
